Cultural values are the cornerstone of First Nations communities, with daily influences and the lasting effects of colonisation factoring into the decision-making of young people. Motivations differ from non-Indigenous norms to emphasise culturally reflective, sustainable and holistic ideas of success and achievement.  

Five elements that contribute to First Nations success in careers is that the focus is community-based, strengths-focused and goal-oriented, and that it fosters active and equal partnerships, and engages deeply with community.
