The National Results findings for NAPLAN were recently released by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA), demonstrating that national levels this year were similar to the results generated in 2023, and that, overall, the results are broadly stable.

Three teachers sit at a desk with notebooks and tablets.

However, as highlighted by ACARA, the NAPLAN results identified an average of 10.3% of students placing at the ‘Needs additional support’ level for reading and 9.5% for numeracy. The results also show that, on average, one in three Indigenous students are in the ‘Needs additional support’ level for both reading and numeracy, compared to one in ten non-Indigenous students.

These are areas where greater support will assist students, and for the past two years, NAPLAN tests have been run earlier in the year to give educators more time to use these test results to inform and guide their teaching and learning programs.

To support this, Education Services Australia’s (ESA’s) range of high-quality, curriculum-aligned and inclusive resources are available to educators freely, when addressing the results of NAPLAN testing and improving student outcomes.

This year, 813 NAPLAN tests were submitted through the Low/No Bandwidth (LNB) solution, a unique ESA-designed technology that allows students in remote schools with little or no internet connection to participate in testing under the same conditions as their peers.
