While school attendance is not a new problem, the pandemic has certainly heightened this issue.

In a recent webinar presented by the Student Wellbeing Hub, Dr Lyn O’Grady explained the reasons why students might become absent from school, highlighted the warning signs to look out for, and stressed the importance of cultivating a sense of belonging in schools.

Dr O’Grady, along with educators taking part in the session, shared steps that schools can take to promote school engagement and attendance, from providing incentives and rewards, to updating school processes and seeking external support.
